New Parts, New You (3)

Welcome back! Rusty here So, I’ll be real with you.  The pandemic and stay-at-home orders really slowed down my progress on my grandfather’s CJ.  And when I say “slowed”, I mean halted.  It’s both my fault, and… well pretty much just my fault.   If you remember, I was fixin’ to fix the front of the frame, but I was having a hard time figuring out how to gain access to it.  Now I don’t mean what’s Step 1 and what’s Step 2.  No, I mean how do I blast through these seized bolts and panels to both not break anything,...

New Parts, New you (2)

Welcome back to Rusty’s Corner! Rusty here, and I’m continuing work on my CJ.  I’m going to dip into the front of the frame this time as I wait for the passenger Spring mount to get replaced.  It’s a simple replacement again, but getting there has my mind warped in confusion. Part Premiere: RB4018-Frame to Body Mount Brackets

Introducing our Frame to Body Mount Brackets (RB4018) for your TJ Wrangler. Jeep Wranglers are built in a rather unique way.  For the most part, a Jeep is two parts: a frame and a body (tub).  The body rests upon the frame and is secured at several points, primarily what are called body mounts.  Here the body rests upon cushions (bushings), and is secured to the frame by way of a large bolt and washer.  This is opposed to what’s known as a unibody, where the frame and body are built as one piece, as seen in conventional vehicles. With age and...

TJ Breakdown and Rebuild

TJ Breakdown and Rebuild

The TJ Wrangler is still one of Jeep’s more popular models, even after nearly 25 years.  It was considered a commercial success due largely to its return-to-roots design choices, once again featuring rounded headlights and hood that Jeep grew to be known for.  Additionally, the TJ transitioned to industry standard cab features and ever-growing popular coil spring suspension.  It achieved a milestone as one of the most desirable ways to drive off-road, and even today, one of the cheapest entry points into the hobby.  Though the TJ is seen as a great starting vehicle, certain trims such as the Unlimited...
